Good afternoon SUNS!

As we head into the Christmas Season, we wanted to share a few special initiatives with our wonderful community.

Our Angel Tree is back!  The tree is up in the foyer and we are ready to hang some angels!  If you are able, we would ask that you bring in a new, unwrapped toy that we can give to the church just before Christmas.  When your child or family brings in a donation, your child will receive an angel to write their name on and place on our tree.  We look forward to our tree becoming filled with angels before Christmas!  Donations can also be made through school cash online to support this initiative, and your children will get an angel if this happens.

We are wearing JEANS!  You may notice our staff wearing JEANS a lot this month.  That is because we are participating in Denim December!  For a donation, staff is able to wear jeans all month, and all money collected will go to support the Hospice Center of Waterloo Region.  This year, we are looking to support families whose lives will be forever changed in the near future.  This is an amazing cause and I am so thankful to work with such a wonderful and generous staff.

All classes are able to participate in our REVERSE Advent Calendar!  This is an option for our classes to provide a nice food donation to tie in our “Intrinsic Motivation” theme.  We give, not so we get praise, but because it is a good thing to do and makes us feel good!  Each class is challenged to bring in a food item representing each day of the month and the end result would be a great package of food items that we can donate to the food bank of Waterloo Region!

Our Grade 8 classes are writing cards for the “Meals on Wheels Program”.  Each meal that is delivered will come with a Christmas Card, wishing a deserving person a very Merry Christmas!  These cards are provided to our students by our school and school council!

These are just some of the initiatives that are happening at Saint John Paul II during the month of December.  There are lots of other spirit building days that you will hear about soon – We look forward to building the Christmas Spirit!

Have a wonderful December SUNS!
