Good afternoon SUNS Families and Friends,

December is here!  In this Week at a Glance, we have messages about Advent, our Umbrella Project’s theme, and the Angel Tree.  Please read on!

As the Advent season begins, we are reminded of the true meaning of Christmas~the coming of Jesus’ birth and all that it brings.  Here is a link to the Vatican News with a message from Pope Francis and finding Jesus in the needs of others.

Umbrella Theme for the Month of December is Cognitive Flexibility.

Cognitive flexibility is our ability to change our strategies when we face new and unexpected situations.  It’s our brain’s capacity to make sense of the unfamiliar, to pivot and thrive in uncertainty. It’s important for innovating, coming up with new ideas and solving problems, and is essential to creativity.  It also helps us accept and understand people and situations that are different from ours. ~ Dr. Jen, The Umbrella Project

Angel Tree Campaign

Dear Saint John Paul II Families:

We are fast approaching Christmas and are about to celebrate the first Sunday of Advent.  The staff at Saint John Paul II as well as the St. Anthony Daniel Parish would like to invite all families to experience the true meaning of the season, by participating in the St. Vincent de Paul “Angel Tree Campaign” from Monday, November 25th until Friday, December 13th, 2019.

If you are not familiar with the Angel Tree, the idea is to purchase a Christmas gift for a child who would otherwise not receive one.  To make it meaningful for your child, we ask that they choose a gift a child their age would enjoy. All donations will be supporting families within our own community that would not otherwise be able to provide Christmas gifts for their children.

Once again, this year, the JK-Grade 8 classes will be participating in the Angel Tree Campaign.  Through this initiative, we hope to inspire the students to share the true meaning of Christmas – Jesus Christ – God’s Greatest Gift.

Once you have purchased a gift please return it to the school unwrapped.  Gifts will be picked up on Friday, December 13th, 2019, by St. Vincent de Paul volunteers who will then arrange for distribution to families in need on Saturday, December 14th.

We will be setting up a tree in the front foyer to create our “Angel Tree”.  Each child or family making a donation will place an angel on our tree and their gift under the tree. When the gift is brought in, your child will get the opportunity to decorate an angel at school for our tree. If you wish to participate in our Saint John Paul II “Angel Tree Campaign”, please send in a new, unwrapped gift or gift card by the morning of Friday, December 13th, 2019

Thank you for helping to show the giving community Saint John Paul is!”
