Run the Paschal Mystery with us!

Good morning SUNS!

As we look forward to a return to school this week, we want to remind all of you about the focus that we have held over the course of the past few weeks and what we will continue to hold until Easter.

Three weeks ago, we introduced the idea of “Running the Paschal Mystery” indicating that this Easter Season needs to be an active process and not a passive one.  Our focus for the first week of Lent was “Holy Thursday”.  The day that reminds us that God wants to nourish us.  What can we do to come to the table of the Lord?

The focus of our second week was “Good Friday”.  We asked the question: “If this was the day that Jesus was crucified, why do we call it ‘good’?”.  Well, as we discussed, it is an excellent role model for all of us that we can not always be in control, and we experience Good Friday when we realize that there are times when we need to relinquish and let things go.

This coming week, we will focus on “Holy Saturday”.  This is the day between the great sadness of Good Friday and the extreme joy of Easter Sunday.  We know what is to come, but the disciples did not know at the time.  It would have taken a great amount of faith and patience for them to get through the day.  That is the lesson for us.  When do we show patience and faith?  How can we work intentionally to have more patience?  More faith?  This will be our focus this week as we continue our journey toward Easter.

It is also a good time to reflect on our Lenten promises.  Early on we all were challenged to make a promise about daily prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.  Have we maintained our daily prayer?  Have we continued fasting from something?  Negativity, hurtful words, behaviours that we know we should not engage in…these are all great things to “fast” from.  Have we worked to give back?  We could kelp a neighbour, or volunteer some time…these are the wonderful efforts that can be “given” to make the world a better place.

As we continue our journey toward Easter this year, we want to remember that God loves us and is there for us always – and yet, we have a responsibility to do what we can to make His world a better place as we continue to be stewards of His gift.

Have a wonderful week SUNS, and a wonderful Easter Season.
